Internship Opportunities

Interested in Practicum and/or Internship in Higher Education?

We offer excellent practicum and internship opportunities for Counselor Education, Higher Administration, Curriculum & Instruction, and Sociology graduate students!

The UNIVERSITY SUCCESS 1001 (UNIV 1001) course is designed to help first year students become academically and socially prepared for college. Course content will include enhancing critical thinking skills, problem solving, stress management, communication skills, time management, wellness, building healthy relationships, good decision-making, and time to discuss whatever the first year students are facing as part of their transition to adulthood. When the student completes the UNIV 1001 course they will have gained a great deal about succeeding in college – in and out of the classroom.

Models practiced: Brief, Behavioral, Learning, Choice/Reality, and Person Centered.

Professional skills cultivated: Class Management, Curriculum Development, Teaching, Presentation Skills, and Organizational Skills.   

Student development theories promoted: Erikson, Piaget, Kohlberg, Gilligan, Perry, Myers-Briggs, Chickering, Schlossberg, Josselson, and Helms.

What Will Be Expected?

Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:

  1. Teach/Group Facilitate 2-4 UNIV 1001 (1 credit) courses
  2. Prepare and organize any course materials needed for the successful execution of each class
  3. Meet with students to discuss their self-reported assessments
  4. Meet with students regularly, when needed, to discuss developmental, personal, and academic needs
  5. Develop student workshops and organize student groups
  6. Document student files after meetings
  7. Meet weekly for individual supervision
  8. Attend weekly staff meetings
  9. Assist department administratively when needed

Completing a practicum and/or internship with us offers an opportunity for:

  • behavioral & developmental coaching/counseling
  • creating curriculum and facilitating course instruction
  • gaining practical professional experience in higher education.
